Just outside of Newman Western Australia
New Age caravans are in high demand in Port Headland and its easy to see why they are like army tanks and hold up to the conditions up here really well, I am not sure what the air con is like in them but I am pretty happy the Daf has a good system as its really hot and humid up this way.
I got to have a look in these vans when I dropped them off and the caravan on the back is actually a Toy Hauler, which means it has a drop down ramp at the rear and can hold your quad bike, dirt bike or maybe even a small boat. Very impressive vans and well worth taking a look at if you are looking to buy a new caravan.
Interstate Caravan Transport
We have been doing interstate Caravan transport for many years
We have weekly runs from Melbourne to Perth, Brisbane, Darwin and return and all trucks are equipped with winch’s, ramps and jockey wheel ramps for self loading/unloading, our trailers are air bagged for smooth ride.
If we can get the caravan to the rear of the truck we can load it and have it at your door before you know it.
Ford Transit Camper
Interstate Caravan Transport
I have read many websites giving advice on interstate caravan transport some good and some not so good, this information is only based on my many years of experience doing interstate caravan transport.
Choosing the Transport method
You really only have two ways to transport your Caravan interstate, the fist way is to flat tow the Caravan, Flat towing is the caravan connected to a car or 4×4 and towed, for this case lets use Melbourne to Perth, The tow driver connects to your caravan and starts the drive to Perth, Now that your van is on the way there are a couple of cons to this method.
1/ Wheel bearings are they installed correctly?
2/ Stone and road Damage
3/ The caravan is new and straight off the factory floor it hasn’t been road tested, is everything done up tight? (you would be surprised what can fall off or fail on new caravans when fresh out of the factory)
One Pro for this method is you will usually save around $500 using this method.
The next Method is having your new caravan carried on a flatbed truck.
With most caravan carriers today they have air bag trailers this is a must, with air bag trailers this gives your Caravan a soft ride taking the bounce out of the caravan.
Pro’s and cons
1/ A better ride and no bearing problems.
2/ Your van will arrive in the same condition as it was loaded.
Con would be it might cost a little more.
Choosing a Carrier
First and foremost get a copy of the insurance policy.
Ask for the names of past customers (call them)
Get a copy of the drivers licence
If the transport company asks you to pay up front keep looking! (Only pay when the Caravan arrives and you have checked the condition of the Caravan.)
Preparing your caravan for transport
Most caravan manufacturers finish the construction stage lock the doors and send the caravan to transport.
If it was my Caravan I would be asking for a few minor tasks to be done prior to transporting.
1/Everything that can move inside the Van be Taped for example: Tape the oven, fridge and all doors shut, the shower rose and toilet paper holder taped up, all windows, hatches and screens locked and secured.
We do all this at no extra cost as it doesn’t take very long and saves any heart ache later.
Again if it was my van I would check that the carrier has full insurance and I would also put a cover note or insure the Caravan from the take over day and if there is a problem I am not left fighting the insurance company my self.
